Rick Santorum's Google problem haunts Republican campaign

http://nma.tv Rick Santorum has a Google problem. It's called Dan Savage. Savage, a popular sex columnist, Google-bombed Santorum, a conservative Republican, by creating a new definition for the word Santorum. Rick Santorum is the former Pennsylvania senator and family values champion who for months languished as the bottom candidate in Republican 2012 presidential polls. But instead of flaming out, Santorum caught fire just in time to nearly surge to a come-from-behind victory over Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor who's usually on top of the Republican field. But Santorum still has a problem that goes back to 2003 when Dan Savage, furious at Santorum's condemnation of gay sex as the equivalent of "man on dog" intercourse spearheaded a contest to define something Santorum would find disgusting as "Santorum." More than 3000 suggestions flooded in, including defining Santorum as "doggy style sex" or "the dirty Sanchez." The winner was "the frothy mixture of lube and fecal matter that is sometimes the byproduct of anal sex." Savage then created a website to promote the neologism and blog about Santorum-related news. Since then, the website has consistently ranked first or second in the search results for the word "Santorum." Hence Santorum's Google problem. Fast-forward nine years. Rick Santorum is as strongly opposed to gay rights as ever, even saying that he would annul existing gay marriages if he became president. The website is still one of the first things people see when they Google Santorum. Which means that because of his newfound popularity, a lot of folks are going to Google him for the first time, and what they'll find will not jibe with the conservative culture warrior image Santorum cultivates.
