STORY: BAGHDAD BOMBINGSDATELINE: Jan. 5, 2012LENGTH: 0:00:53LOCATION: BaghdadCATEGORY: SOCIETYPICAt least 60 people were killed and some other 135 wounded in a roadside bomb attack targeted Shi'ite pilgrims in southern Iraq on Thursday.*****The attack occurred in Nassriyah, some 375 km south of Baghdad, when a roadside bomb went off near a procession of Shi' ite pilgrims.The pilgrims were walking on a main road leading to the holy Shi'ite city of Karbala, to commemorate the Arbaeen religious ritual, which its climax will be on January 13.Arbaeen is the end of 40 days of mourning for the Imam Hussein, the Prophet Muhammad's grandson who was killed at the battle of Karbala in 680 A.D.Earlier in the day, bomb attacks in Baghdad's Shi'ite districts killed a total of 24 people and wounded some 66 others.Many Iraqis are worried about a resurgence of ethnic and sectarian violence that once nearly torn the country apart few years ago.
