Deposed Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak is wheeled into court on a stretcher as his trial resumes for the second time following a two-month delay.
Mubarak and his two sons, Alaa and Gamal, along with former head of the Interior Ministry Habib al-Adli and a number of senior police officers, are all on trial.
They face charges ranging from corruption to involvement in the deaths of hundreds of protesters during the January and February uprising that unseated Mubarak.
Adli has already been sentenced to 12 years in prison for corruption. But five police officers were cleared last week of criminal charges over the killing of protesters during the uprising
Security was tight around the court where a group of anti-Mubarak protesters were calling for justice - with one demonstrator saying it should be an eye for an eye.
(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) DEMONSTRATOR, HEBA HANAFY AL-SAYED, SAYING:
"It's been a year, and not one ruling has been ordered for an officer, for Mubarak or any of his aides. This is unacceptable; we want to exchange blood for more blood, just like we were killed, Gamal, Alaa and Mubarak also should be killed."
One plaintiff lawyer says the defence has asked for police reports on the violent clashes that occurred in Cairo over the past few months.
He says the defence will try to use them to argue that the protesters are nothing but trouble-makers that cannot be controlled.
Much of the trial centres on who gave the order for police to open fire on demonstrators during the 18-day uprising against Mubarak's rule.
