At least nine people have been killed and 30 wounded in a car bomb blast outside the home of a Pakistani former minister in Quetta.
The car was parked outside the home of Naseer Mengal, once minister of petroleum and natural resources.
The explosives were detonated by remote control.
After the blast there was an exchange of fire between gunmen and private security guards.
Quetta lies in Baluchistan province, Pakistan's biggest and poorest region where separatist militants are demanding more autonomy and control over natural resources.
Pro-Taliban fighters are also active in the province which shares its borders with Afghanistan and Iran.
