A year ago Israel experienced the biggest forest fire in its history. Fire spread in a large area in the north and left Nature scorched and blackened. Our reporters visited the site to see how people and Nature were doing one year after the catastrophe.

A year after the biggest forest fire in Israeli history almost consumed their homes...and their families, residents of Kizbbutz Bet Oren are still struggling to put the pieces of their lives back together.

After such a terrible fire it's a long road to recovery.

[Aimy Filler, Art Studio Owner, Bet Oren]:
"The truth is that I have spent many months on the technical rehabilitation: rebuilding and renewing the house and building a new studio to replace the one that was burnt down."

One year on and some people still feel the fire.

[Dan Amir, Tour Guide, Resident of Bet Oren]:
"I certainly feel the trauma, I feel as if the fire is still burning. Each time I revisit those days and hours I feel it anew."

Already, new trees are springing up.

[Dan Amir, Tour Guide, Resident of Bet Oren]:
"This is a process of renewal in Nature. Many new things appear, many other things that were sick, dry, or old have disappeared. Fire is no doubt a process of renewal."

After the fire the foresters decided to let nature take its course and renew itself.

The foresters say that this way, the forest might return to its original nature.
