Home Décor: Living Room Art - as part of the home design series by GeoBeats. When you are picking out art work for your home the most important thing to remember is that you are going to be looking at this piece day in and day out so you need to pick something that really speaks to you. These days there are so many different types of artwork in the market. You can go to a fancy gallery and purchase an expensive piece of art; you can frame something that your kid drew for you, maybe some family portrait or post cards from vacation. Another popular type of art work are graphic images these days, bold graphic prints that you can buy on Etsy or off the internet. When you are hanging art work it is very important to consider the proportion. You want to consider the proportion of the art work to the rest of the room itself and the proportion of the art work on the wall. These are vintage prints of European postcards, if we have just one on the wall it would get a little bit lost on this large space so instead what we did is we grouped the three of them together to create the illusion of one larger piece. This is a nice vintage print of a ski resort in France it is nice because it evokes emotions of traveling, adventure and fun. When you are hanging art in your living room you also want to take into account the symmetry and the space plan of the rest of the furniture. For example, in this space we have a sofa with the two matching end tables on either side, so it just made sense to hang art work on either side of the sofa as well flanking the window to create the illusion of symmetry. The most important thing about finding art work for your living room is to find a piece that you really love and to find something that compliments your existing furnishings. And those are just a few simple suggestions on how to pick artwork and hang it in your living room.
