Monday evening, Japanese maritime authorities arrested the captain of a 130-ton Chinese boat found operating near one of the islands from Japan's Nagasaki prefecture. Chinese authorities are calling it just a (quote) "ordinary fishery incident" and encourage Japanese authorities to uphold the captain's legal rights.

The Chinese boat was apprehended when they refused to stop after being told to by a Japanese patrol boat. The 10 sailors on board, and the captain, Zhong Jinyin, attempted to flee.

Last year, a similar conflict between a Japanese patrol boat and a Chinese trawler in the East China Sea created high tensions between the two nations.

South Korea, Japan and China frequently have clashes among fisherman operating in each other's waters.
