South Korean activists continue to protest over the fatal stabbing of a coastguard officer as anti-China sentiments intensify. On Wednesday, hundreds of war veterans assembled outside the Chinese embassy in Seoul for the third day. Here's more.

Hundreds of South Korean war veterans gathered outside the Chinese embassy in Seoul on Wednesday for the third day.

The activists held the South Korean flag and placards—chanting anti-China slogans. They are protesting over the death of a coastguard and demanding the Chinese regime to stop illegal Chinese fishing in South Korean waters.

[Seo Jin-hyun, Korean Veterans Association Senior Member]:

"The Chinese government should promise these kinds of incidents will never happen again and take action."

The coast guard died on Monday after being stabbed by a Chinese fisherman. He was attacked as he was trying to detain the Chinese fishing boat found in South Korean waters.

Adding to the tension, a small projectile was thrown at the South Korea's embassy in Beijing on Tuesday—cracking one of the windows. But it's not clear if it was connected to the protests.

Illegal Chinese fishing is increasing in crab-rich South Korean waters. Since 2006, about 2,600 Chinese fishing vessels have been apprehended in South Korean waters.

Nearly 440 Chinese fishing boats were caught this year—a hike of nearly 50 percent from last year. Some of these resulted in aggressive confrontations with South Korean marine police.

Monday's incident was the first deadly maritime clash between Chinese fishermen and South Korean marine police in three years.
