Madonna is looking at Hollywood through a different lens.
The megastar attended the New York premiere of her new movie "W.E." which puts her in the director's chair for the first time.
W.E. mixes fact and fiction to tell the tale of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor.
(SOUNDBITE): Madonna, director, W.E., saying (English):
"Edward the Eighth - he was the most powerful man in the world and he gave up this position, his throne for the woman he loved and to me that's an astonishing sacrifice. So I wanted to understand the nature of that sacrifice."
(SOUNDBITE): Madonna, director, W.E., saying (English):
"You know, there is no such thing as perfect love, but on the other hand I do believe in romance and I do believe in true love and I do believe that it exists and that it is possible for everyone - if you're willing to make those compromises."
The Material Girl insists that even as a director, she's no stranger to the camera.
(SOUNDBITE): Madonna, director, W.E., saying (English):
"Well I've been on a few film sets in my day and I've been married to a few directors and I've been friends with a lot of directors and I've picked up some tips along the way - paid attention."
Madonna's lead actress Andrea Riseborough called her direction "insightful and inspiring."
The film is set to be released in the U.S. on February 3rd.
