Shia Muslims around the world are preparing to mark Ashura, the day of mourning for the martyrdom of the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, Hussein-Ibn-Ali, more than 1300 years ago. Here in Indian-controlled Kashmir, the religious processions during the month of Muharram have been banned since the unrest began in 1989; however this year's event was expected to be different as normalcy has spread around the troubled region, but the scene on the ground proved the opposite.
