For sale - Elizabeth's Taylors valuables
Elizabeth Taylor lived her life on a grand scale.
So it would only be appropriate that the sale of her prize possessions is set to be one of the biggest in auction history.
Christie's in New York will hold three different sales of the actress' belongings - expected to fetch $50 million (USD) dollars.
Among the top lots are two of Taylor's wedding dresses, worn when she married and remarried husband Richard Burton.
There's also a 33.19 carat diamond, a gift from Burton, which she reportedly wore daily.
The head of Christie's Jewelry department says even he was amazed at the actress' collection.
SOUNDBITE: Rahul Kadakia, Head of Jewelry Department, Christie's, saying (English):
"People always ask, why is this the greatest jewelry collection of them all? Well, because of the range of this collection, because of the history behind the collection and most importantly because of who owned it."
A chorus line of kaftans, a fascination of Taylor's in the 70s, are up for sale.
As are a menacing array of shoes and handbags.
The curator of the sale says unlike many starlets today, Taylor didn't have a stylist.
SOUNDBITE: Meredith Etherington-Smith, Curator of Elizabeth Taylor's Fashion Collection, saying (English):
"Designers didn't give you stuff for the red carpet, you paid for it yourself or you got it out of the studio wardrobe. Ms. Taylor styled herself and she actually wrote the checks."
A portion of the funds from the sale and general admission will go towards The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation (ETAF).
The collection will be on display for ten days before the auction kicks off on December 13.
