Anti-Shell activists protest in Durban

Members of Canada's Indigenous Environmental Network stage a protest outside the Durban premises of Royal Dutch Shell.
They are calling for the oil company to put people's lives ahead of profits by reducing gas emissions.
(SOUNDBITE) (English) INDIGENOUS ENVIRONMENTAL NETWORK ACTIVIST, BEN POWLESS, SAYING:
"We are here to protest Shell's involvement in Canada, in the Tar Sands, Northern Alberta and the violations of human rights in indigenous communities."
The protest was held as the 'COP17' United Nations Convention on Climate Change entered its third day.
European Union climate negotiators said the world needs a far more ambitious plan than the Kyoto Protocol to cut greenhouse gas emissions.
They stressed that any such deal would be meaningless unless the countries responsible for large amounts of emissions signed on.
(SOUNDBITE) (English) EU CLIMATE NEGOTIATOR, ARTUR RUNGE-METZGER, SAYING:
"I think what we expect from the United States is that they stick very clearly to the pledge they have been making in Cancun. And that they show very clearly that they are going to implement what they have promised in their domestic actions. I think they have taken some measures but some more things need to be done."
They are calling for a global deal to be reached by 2015, and in place by 2020.
