One of Egypt's best-loved sportsmen, the retired national soccer goalkeeper, Nader Elsayed, joined protesters in Tahrir Square on Saturday (November 26) evening, leading the crowd in chants against the country's ruling military council.
Elsayed urged hundreds of protesters to camp in the square until the head of the military council, Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi submits his resignation.
Elsayed, a hero of Egypt's victorious 1998 African Cup of Nations campaign, led a crowd of protesters marching in Tahrir Square as they expressed their anger at the appointment of veteran politician Kamal Ganzouri, 78, as Prime Minister.
Away from the soccer pitch, the 38-year-old former goalie had a high profile as a pro-democracy campaigner during the revolution that ousted President Mubarak from office ten months ago.
