Italian debt interest hits record high

Italy's central bank paid 7.7 percent today on two billion euros of two year bonds; an historic record and more than twice as expensive as they were in October. The surge in borrowing costs is being downplayed by the Treasury. While it recognises it "sounds prohibitive" it says it will not have a "lasting effect" on Italy's debt. http://www.euronews.net/
