STORY: BRAZIL SUSPENDS CHEVRON FOR OIL SPILL DATELINE: Nov. 24, 2011LENGTH: 0:00:47LOCATION: Sao PauloVOThe Brazilian government on Wednesday suspended oil company Chevron's drilling rights in the country, urging it to clarify the causes of an offshore oil spill.Brazil's National Petroleum Agency said the decision was based on findings that the company had been "negligent" in its preparation ahead of drillings in the country. The announcement came as the chief executive of Chevron's Brazilian unit publicly apologized for the Nov. 8 spill that leaked about 2,400 barrels of oil into the ocean off the coast of Rio de Janeiro.Brazil's government on Monday slapped Chevron with a 28 million dollars fine for the spill, adding the penalty could rise to 44 million as the U.S. company faces a mounting political backlash over the accident.
