Demonstrations on both sides of the U.S. -- in what Occupy protesters are calling a "day of action."
In New York, police arrested more than a 100 protesters... attempting to disrupt business at the New York Stock Exchange.
But thanks to a heavy police presence and a lower than expected attendance, demonstrators were unable to disrupt any business.
Several scuffles broke out.
"They can arrest people but they can't arrest an idea. And so it's important for us to get the education aspect of it in as well."
In Los Angeles - at least 20 people were arrested after demonstrators marched through the city's financial area.
''I'm here to support the movement and the people marching on Wall Street in New York today."
In Washington, D.C., more than 100 people marched from their camp downtown - to Key Bridge in Georgetown.
And - in Portland, police closed a main bridge before protesters crossed it.
Later hundreds gathered in the West Coast city ... in a standoff with riot police ... part of a now two-month-old movement against economic inequality.
