Frivolous playboy Dick Wallace (John Wayne) needs to grow up, and he decides a sweet girl named Marion Hall (Evelyn Knapp), grand-daughter of a local minister Rev. Hall (Alec B. Francis), is just the antidote to his profligate life. Mr. Wallace (Reginald Barlow) wants his son to follow in the family business and has been warning him to stop fooling around with a series of women. Dick tries everything to win Marion, including extending a loan to the minister, but his father fires him for letting personal feelings enter the business. In secret, Marion takes a job as Mr. Wallace’s private secretary to impress the old man.
