Bangkok struggles to contain floodwaters
Surreal scenes in Bangkok as floodwaters continue to creep towards the city centre.
The inner city, protected by a network of dikes and sandbags, has so far survived peak tides but the risk is not yet over.
Parts of this famously congested metropolis are almost at a standstill as residents struggle to cope.

"It's quite difficult for the people in Bangkok to get to work, because almost everyone knows Bangkok is the most traffic jammed city in the world. Now water is coming… it is really terrible."
At Bangkok's international airport, many work around the clock to shore up defences, stacking sandbags and preparing water pumps.
Thai prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra however told reporters that floodwaters in east Bangkok are starting to recede.

"Water from the north is now starting to recede and we're trying to drain floodwaters into canals. But we have to monitor some floodgates to control the water flow into Bangkok."
Meanwhile, in Japan, ten pump trucks are readied to be sent to Thailand to help combat the flooding.
Japanese officials said the gesture was partly to repay Thailand for its help after Japan's earthquake and tsunami earlier this year.
Thailand's worst flooding in decades has killed at least 427 people and devastated valuable rice crops.
