Some two million Turkish people live in Germany, and that fact alone makes for a special relationship between the two countries. Turkey is an important partner for dialogue with Muslim and Arab states. But relations between Germany and Turkey are not always easy, particularly when it comes to the question of Turkey's bid for EU membership.
