Taiwan's top China negotiator, Chiang Pin-kung, has announced that the island will sign a nuclear-power security cooperation agreement with the Chinese regime.

He says the agreement will put a framework in place for the two sides to inform each other of hazardous situations at nuclear power plants.

The agreement can be seen as another step in the Mainland-friendly policy of President Ma Ying-jeou to increase ties between the two sides. Mainland China and Taiwan split in 1949, when communist forces conquered the Mainland.
