Former Army soldier Jerry Jones (George Murphy) is now a Broadway producer. When the Second World War breaks out, he calls to his old war buddies to help him put together a show that features all former servicemen. Meanwhile, his playboy son Johnny (Ronald Reagan) has finally fallen in love. His heart throb is Eileen (Joan Leslie). But Eileen’s father is a friend and cast member of Jerry’s show. Eddie Dibble (Charles Butterworth) is aware of Johnny’s philandering ways and is not fond of the romance. Much of the show centers around the antics of trying to get a group of men, who are not trained professionals ready to perform on Broadway. But the show-stopper happens at the end when Kate Smith (herself) finishes the performance with her famous, “God Bless America”.
