LONDON - Paul Smith's Spring/Summer 2012 collection for New York Fashion Week stood out for its easy basics and its trousers. The pieces had a menswear-inspired, androgynous feel with a cut that was appropriate for women. Pants were tailored well but baggy and shirts and blazers were open. Hair was down, adding to the essence that this was a lady's collection, not one for men, though there was no arguing that it could have been unisex. Accessories added a further touch of lady--fedoras in fuchsia and light pink on the button down and pants gave it a summery femme vibe that would be perfect for the likes of Alexa Chung and Kate Moss if they were looking to spend a day walking downtown with bright pops of color to boot.
