Essential Tools for Making Cake - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats. Getting your cake batter ready is a very important process. So some of the tools that you are going to need include dry measuring cups and liquid measuring cups. There is a difference based on volume. It is preferable to actually use a scale to measure your pastry ingredients, that way they are going to be very accurate and every time you do it, it is going to be spot-on, exactly the way that the recipe is written. Whereas when you use the volume measurement, sometimes it varies based on how much extra flower you put in, whether the phone rang and you came back or something like that. So when you can, use a scale, if not you want to use your volume measuring tools. You also want to use your measuring spoons and a high temperature spatula. The reason I like a high temperature spatula when I am mixing ingredients is because they always remain flexible. I can get the last little bit out of the bowl except for what I was snacking on while I was testing flavors. And another item that I find invaluable when I am baking is an oven thermometer. Many of us have older ovens or just were not quite sure of how they work. Maybe we have moved, maybe we have gotten a new oven or something like that. If you have a thermometer in your oven you can actually set it to the temperature that you think you need, and then you can check and make sure that it is actually baking at that temperature. It is a great tool to help things bake the best way they can every time.
