The opposition leader Michael Sata has been declared winner of the country's presidential election, unseating the incumbent president Rupiah Banda as leader of Africa's biggest copper producer.The Chief Justice Ernest Sakala said on Friday that with more than 95 percent of the constituencies counted, Sata garnered 43 percent of the vote, as compared to 36 percent gained by Banda.The presidential race has been the most crowded one in the southern African country since the introduction of multiparty politics in 1991.Apart from Sata and Banda, eight candidates from several minor parties were also contesting, but failed to get as many votes.The 74-year-old Sata is regarded as a champion of young people and the unemployed.
