Home Preparation for Puppy - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats. Just stopping and thinking 'Oh, I need to repair my home for a new puppy' is just being Jew on step ahead. It is vital that you think about what it is going to be like to bring this crazy little ball of chaos in to your life and there is going to be a lot of changes. So one thing you have to do is ask yourself do I have a lifestyle where I can have a dog in my life because puppies they are pack animals, they are a part of our family, they are companions, they do not, they cannot tolerate being alone for long hours. So what are you going to do when you go to work? Are you going to leave the puppy alone? There is many services now that you can use, Puppy day care and dog walkers and if you can get something like that going then you can manage to have a puppy and work all day. But that is a critical question to have to ask yourself. Do I have a lifestyle where I can really have this puppy in my life. And also be prepared for a few months of really hard work. So another thing to ask yourself in preparing for a new puppy to come in to your life is 'can I commit to two or three months and losing some things that I potentially really love and will not have anymore' Like a few necklaces or household items that might end up getting lost in the mouth. Another really important thing to do before your puppy arrives, if you can, is to sign your puppy up for a kindergarten class. Take your puppy to school. It is wonderful for so many reasons. A: the puppy needs to learn the human language and the ropes, but B: you need to learn puppy language and a class could really teach you how to communicate with your dog and understand them and bond with them. It can be so playful and so much fun if you go and find a class that uses reward based training. Another thing that you want to before a puppy comes in the house is set it up so that you have the proper care and proper exercise and outlets for that puppy. There are too many homeless puppies, too many homeless dogs in shelters because people did not prepare enough, did not prepare understand this little canine that was coming in to their house. So the preparation part really sets the stage for the rest of your life with your dog. There is probably nothing more important than preparing yourself mentally before your puppy comes. So go ahead, get started. Learn all about what puppies do, what you need to accomplish. And that first day they come in to you will be ready and they will be yours for life.
