Another really important thing to do before your puppy arrives, if you can, is to sign your puppy up for a kindergarten class. Take your puppy to school. It is wonderful for so many reasons. A: the puppy needs to learn the human language and the ropes, but B: you need to learn puppy language and a class could really teach you how to communicate with your dog and understand them and bond with them. It can be so playful and so much fun if you go and find a class that uses reward based training. Another thing that you want to before a puppy comes in the house is set it up so that you have the proper care and proper exercise and outlets for that puppy. There are too many homeless puppies, too many homeless dogs in shelters because people did not prepare enough, did not prepare understand this little canine that was coming in to their house. So the preparation part really sets the stage for the rest of your life with your dog. There is probably nothing more important than preparing yourself mentally before your puppy comes. So go ahead, get started. Learn all about what puppies do, what you need to accomplish. And that first day they come in to you will be ready and they will be yours for life.
