Spring's bright at NY Fashion Week

7 years ago39 views

New York's Lincoln Center is springing into action for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York.
And brand manager Lisa Holladay promises it will be bigger than ever.
(SOUNDBITE) Lisa Holladay, Brand Manager, Mercedes-Benz USA, saying (English):
"There'll be 99 shows here over the week, 16 brand new designers, so we're thrilled to have new designers coming in to the event."
Daily Candy editor Lauren Lumsden forecasts the Spring/Summer 2012 trends.
(SOUNDBITE) Lauren Lumsden, editor, Daily Candy, saying (English):
"I think that every Spring and Summer, people are like 'bright colors', and they get really excited about it. But I think that Spring and Summer 2012 is actually really going to be bright, especially with the color-blocking trend. I think that you're going to think of bright jewel tones and also metallics becoming more commonplace for the consumer."
Which seems on point for designer Rebecca Minkoff.
(SOUNDBITE) Rebecca Minkoff, fashion designer, saying (English):
"So, originally what inspired me about the collection was this architect, Luis Barragan and he had these beautiful, saturated colors in his architecture. And I liked that they would have been bleached out a little bit, as if you were in the desert for a long time."
On the shelves of her New York showroom, her vision translated into handbags and shoes demonstrating the color blocking trend.
And add Metallics into the mix because gold is in.
(SOUNDBITE) Lauren Lumsden, editor, Daily Candy, saying (English):
"It's funny because gold is at an all-time high on the market right now. So it's a safe bet for investors and just like it's a safe bet for designers."
Editors also say the demand for lux goods in China will have Asian-inspired trends cropping up on the runway.
New York Fashion Week will run from September 8 through the 15, with some designers debuting their collections later in the day on September 11.
Because in New York, in life -- and in fashion - the show must go on.
