(0901 CR M07) NANMADOL CAUSES ECONOMIC LOSSESDATELINE: Sept. 1, 2011LENGTH: 00:01:02VOTropical storm Nanmadol has swept China's southeastern coast, leaving hundreds of homes destroyed.Authorities say it has caused losses of nearly seven million U.S. dollars.Nanmadol is the 11th tropical storm to hit China this year.It has skirted the coast of Fujian Province and has brought heavy rainfall since Monday, with precipitation expected to last until Friday.As of 3 p.m. Wednesday, 138,000 people had been evacuated in the province.About 110 houses were destroyed and another 600 damaged.According to the Ministry of Civil Affairs, more than 272,000 people have been affected so far.Nanmadol weakened to a tropical depression after bringing heavy rains to Fujian.Local authorities warn that a large amount of accumulated rainfall may trigger torrential flooding and landslides.However, weather forecast says the tropical storm will gradually weaken before leaving the city of Jinjiang in Fujian.
