Nearly one-third of the world's coral reefs have been destroyed. Pollution in the ocean, dynamite fishing, and global climate change continue to endanger fragile coral ecosystems.
The Coral Triangle is an area of the ocean and coastal waters between Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Timor Leste, and the Solomon Islands.

The German government is donating 2.4 million Euros to support these countries in their effort to preserve coral reefs, with the largest portion of the funds going to Papua New Guinea.

If the destruction of the coral reefs continues unabated, the food supply for over 200 million people will be threatened.
