In Gansu Province’s Tianshui City, dozens of Catholics and underground priests were arrested on Wednesday according to the Catholic news agency AsiaNews. It comes during the struggle to appoint a new bishop… after the last one died in 2004.
The Chinese regime does not have formal ties with the Vatican, and aims to appoint its own state-approved bishops.

In the past few months, several priests and bishops from the underground Catholic Church have been detained or arrested.
