Republican U.S. presidential hopeful and former Utah governor Jon Huntsman, Jr. says he believes the Chinese regime is behind various cyber attacks on U.S. targets that have originated in China.
In an interview with ABC’s Jake Tapper on Monday, Mr. Huntsman said he thought the attacks came from certain universities and parts of the People’s Liberation Army.
[Jon Huntsman, Jr., Republican Presidential Candidate]:
“Well there are individual universities behind some of the cyber attacks and there are individual units within the People's Liberation Army who are no doubt behind certain attacks. Because of that you have to say that the Chinese government is part of the overall planning, the development of technology and maybe even targeting a list which gives me deep concerns about where this goes and the pervasiveness and the reach that China has in terms of the whole cyber warfare side.”
Huntsman also suggested the U.S. should plumb up its computer genius pool in Silicon Valley and create a cyber-attack early warning system.
