How to Make a Slip Knot - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats. I am Flossie with the Yarn Company in New York City and I am going to show you how to do a slip-knot. The slip-knot is the first stitch that you put on the needle. It starts the chain for the base stitches that you will need in order to create your knit piece. And you are going to start with your yarn and you are going to loop the long end over the short end. So, it is going to make a loop like that. Then you are going to take this loop, and you are going to fold it over the short end like that. And you will see the short end peeking through the loop on the other side. You are going to take your needle, and you are going to loop it under that short end. And grasping both ends, the long and the short, pull it, and then pull the short end until it tightens around the needle. That is how you make a slip-knot.
