Defense News reports that the United States has decided not to sell F-16 C/D fighter jets to Taiwan. This long awaited news is a letdown for Taiwan, which has wanted the jets to beef-up its capacity to withstand an attack from the Chinese regime.
Chinese authorities had repeatedly warned Washington not to go through with the sale. The upside for Taiwan is that the sale of an upgrade package for their existing F-16s has been approved. The 4.6-billion dollar upgrade package will make the Taiwanese F-16s some of the most advanced planes of that class in the world.
