Vodou is a positive and progressive force for health in Africa and Haiti, where traditional Vodou healers work with modern doctors to provide and administer vaccines. The practice of Vodou has been shown to have an actual healing effect, either through true supernatural ability or the power of belief.
Although Hollywood has taken over the idea of the zombie there is some truth in its roots. In 1983 the anthropologist Wade Davis discoveed tetrodotoxin as a key ingredient in a zombification powder able to temporarily 'kill' a person and bring them back to life. An actual victim of zombification, Clairvius Narcisse, lead to the discovery.
