As China Report shows you, a man-made lake as a result of mining has angered local villagers in the southern island province of Hainan for environmental threats. PKG The lake with the size of about 50 football pitches seems no difference from other lakes. The water looks clean and some boats and machines are working on the lake. However, local people from the village of Quanmei told CNC that the so-called lake is actually an open mine pit and the area used to be their farmland. Villagers used to plant trees and water melons in the area for several decades. But the land was expropriated by the government in 2004 and rent to a silica company for mining.
