Pottery Making: Learn Wedging

Pottery Making: Learn Wedging - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats. The first step before you can make your pots is to wedge your clay to prepare it for use. And so wedging involves, just pressing the clay against the table. I like to put one foot behind the other so I can lean into it, and then it is not so much about strength as it is about weight and momentum. This is also a good time to think about what you will be making and to prepare your mind for the pots that you want to form. I tell my students at least sixty turns on the table. Once the wet clay is well wedged you are ready for forming pots on the potters wheel.
