Nanjing city in east China was hit with its worst rainstorm in ten years. The rain lasted about five hours, flooding roads and parts of the Shanghai-Nanjing rail route.

Torrential rain in Nanjing City flooded parts of the Shanghai-Nanjing rail route on Monday, forcing high-speed trains to travel at a slow pace.

Some high-speed services were cancelled, affecting about 430 passengers, according to the local railway authority.

The rainstorm hit Nanjing on Monday afternoon, paralyzing road traffic and severely disrupting traffic routes. The rain lasted up to five hours, dumping more than 2 inches of water an hour in most of the city's districts.

The city's famous Xuanwu Lake received almost 4 inches of rain in one hour.

Local media said it was the city's worst downpour in ten years, and weather authorities predict that heavy rains will continue for the next few days.
