Connection Between Yoga and Meditation - part of the women's fitness video series by GeoBeats. In my experience, yoga and meditation both center around the the breath and staying in the present moment. You have to be mindful of what is going on in both yoga and meditation so you can be aware of your experience. But yoga is much more action oriented, there is poses, there is movement. But meditation, specifically sitting meditation, is in the present time, sitting in the posture in a chair, on a cushion, walking, paying attention to what you are doing, rather than going into poses. originally, yoga was developed to help yogis in India meditate longer to give them some physical outlet for the practice of sitting and it has evolved into its own practice. So, there is a yoga practice and a sitting practice. So, there is that connection. And yoga is a focus on the present time experience, you have to be aware of what is going on in the moment. You cannot stop paying attention because you might fall over. But, meditation is not just sitting. When you are awake, ultimately, if you practice long enough, you will be aware of the present time. So, there is walking meditation, there is eating meditation, yoga meditation. So, it all supports your ability to stay in the present time no matter what it looks like, or what specific instructions you are receiving.
