Il y a dans la biologie moléculaire quelque chose qui se construit numériquement... les programmes ne se contentent pas de décrire les choses : ils sont les choses. Je décrirai la recherche émergente de processus de fabrication fondamentalement numérique, et discuterai les implications que cela peut avoir sur nos manières de vivre, apprendre, travailler et jouer.***Analog telephone calls degraded with distance; we now have the Internet. But today’s most advanced manufacturing processes, whether of microchips or of jumbo jets, are analog: computers control the tools, but there is no information in the materials. There is in molecular biology, which builds digitally; programs don’t just describe things, they are things. I will describe emerging research on fundamentally digital fabrication processes, and discuss its implications for how people live,learn, work, and play.
