China has rejected a proposal from the Philippines to bring the ongoing South China Sea dispute to a United Nations tribunal. The Chinese regime reaffirmed its stance to resolve the maritime clash through bilateral negotiations.

Philippines' Foreign Secretary Albert del Rosario criticized the Chinese regime's rejection on Wednesday, saying it will weaken China's claim.

He said the Philippines' claim on parts of South China Sea and Spratly Islands is based on international law—whereas China's claim is based on "historic rights."
