The Chinese style pagoda is 46 meters tall. It was built by the Chiang Kai-shek in memory of his mother. It was completed in 1971 and sits on the hill southeast of the lake.
Sun Moon Lake is Taiwans most famous lake-side recreational area. It is situated in Nantou County, Central Taiwan. Sun Moon Lake is the largest natural (But changed by man) lake in Taiwan. It is called Sun Moon Lake because the eastern end of the lake looks round like the sun, while the western end is a little shaped like a crescent moon. The lake is surrounded by magnificent mountain scenery, Temples, Fishing camps, Boat houses for fishermen and fishing pontoons etc. Strangely enough, the best times I ever spent at the lake were during the full moons.
