China Birth Defect Rate Increasing

Birth defects are on the rise in China according to the National Center for Birth Defects Monitoring of China. Their latest statistics show that nearly 1.2 million newborns have birth defects and congenital disability it comes to one disabled infant being born every 30 seconds in China.

The birth defect means that disease has already hit the embryo's body before he or she is born. About 30 million families have defected newborns, accounting for 10 percent of the total families in China.

According to the National Center for Birth Defects Monitoring of China, the rate of the birth defects is on the rise since 1987.

The most common defects include chromosome disease syndrome and congenital heart disease.
