STORY: RIOTS IN ROME DATELINE: Dec. 15, 2010 LENGTH: 0:02:41 LOCATION: Rome INTRO Thousands of people have taken to the streets in Rome, calling for a change of government. The demonstration has evolved into the worst violence in the Italian capital for years after Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi survived a confidence vote. PKG The Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has narrowly survived two votes in the Italian parliament to continue his leadership. Berlusconi on Tuesday came within three votes of losing the leadership of the country, when the Italian lower house voted 314 to 311 in favor of him. The no-confidence motion was brought by a former ally of Berlusconi, Gianfranco Fini, who earlier this year broke away along with 40 other lawmakers to oppose the prime minister. The lower house vote came shortly after a Senate vote, which also supported Berlusconi, but by a larger margin.
