Libyan rebels return fire at pro-Gaddafi forces in the city of Misrata, Libya. The counterattacks come after six rockets landed near the city's oil refinery and port earlier in the day.

Misrata is about 130 miles east of the Libyan capital Tripoli. Here, Libyan rebels exchanged fire with pro-Gaddafi forces on Thursday, after six rockets landed earlier in the day near the city's oil refinery and port.

A Reuters journalist in Misrata reported no casualties.

[Abd al-Basit Najee, Rebel fighter from Misrata]:
"Today Gaddafi forces hit us with Hawn rockets -- this is all they have, these Hawn rockets because they can not face us. They say the forces are trained, I don't know for how many years, but in reality they are nothing and they can't come face-to-face with us."

Rebels pushed towards Tripoli from the mountains to the southwest, and from the coast to the east. On Thursday, they made little progress in advancing from their stronghold of Misrata.

Ali al-Obaede joined the rebel fighters in Misrata in February. He quit his post with the Libyan air force after he refused orders to fight against the Libyan people.

[Ali al-Obaede, Rebel fighter from Tripoli]:
"We are a people who can not be oppressed. We are asking for freedom. This freedom is not something we buy with money, but the Libyan people are buying it with their blood (people in background saying 'God is Great') and they will pay the price with their blood. We are the sons of Libya, the children of history."

Meanwhile, Britain's military say that its Apache helicopters had attacked a government checkpoint and two military vehicles near the city of Khoms, between Misrata and Tripoli.
