(0629 CR M14)CHINA POWER SHORTAGE EASED
DATELINE: June 29, 2011
China's power shortage has been eased to some extent, as hydropower output increased thanks to recent heavy rainfalls in many parts of the country.
Official data show that China's daily hydropower output has increased about 12 percent in mid June from early this month to 2.3 billion kilowatt hours.
The increase enabled many provinces to remove electricity rationing.
However, the country's top economic planner--National Development and Reform Commission, or NDRC, warned that power supply in southern China remains tight due to high temperatures, inadequate coal supplies and comparatively less rain.
