Review from Amazon:
William Albert Allard is one of America's most accomplished photographers. His first essay on the Amish for National Geographic in the mid-'60's broke new ground in gaining access and establishing rapport. His images from Mississippi, the Basques of Spain and France, the American West, and Peru demonstrate how Allard brings to photography his compassion for each person he photographs in the tightest of compositions.
Interviewed during a retrospective exhibition in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, Allard shares more than 80 of his best images, commenting on them specifically and addressing some of his critical concerns: serendipity in photography; passion for one's work and subject; relating to the people one photographs; shooting "on the edge" of light and action; limited palette color; intensity, perseverance, self-drive, self criticism. Add to all of this Allard's gifted sense of timing and it is clear why this show is a treasure for inspiration!
