STORY: PAKISTAN COALITION PARTNER QUITS DATELINE: June 28, 2011 LENGTH: 0:00:41 LOCATION: Islamabad VO The Pakistan government's main coalition partner has quit the administration, dealing a major blow to the ruling party. The Muttahida Qaumi Movement announced on Monday that it has quit the ruling coalition. The movement said it made the decision due to what it called the "dictatorial" and "brutal" approach of the ruling Pakistan People's Party. Although the move is a blow to the government, it's not expected to collapse as it enjoys a comfortable majority in parliament. But the departure of the key coalition partner will add to political instability in Pakistan, which is battling an Islamist insurgency and a surge of violence since U.S. forces killed Osama bin Laden in May.
