STORY: MERKEL'S TALK DISAPPOINTS TURKEY DATELINE: Jan. 13, 2011 LENGTH: 0:00:36 LOCATION: Ankara VO Turkey's Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu says German Chancellor Angela Merkel's recent remarks on the Cyprus issue was a disappointment to Turkey. During Merkel's visit to Cyprus on Tuesday, she said the Greek Cypriot side had taken steps towards a solution, but the Turkish side hasn't been responding. She said her country backs Cyprus' reunification efforts. Davutoglu responded to Merkel saying Turkey always wished Germany played a more active role in the Cyprus issue but Merkel's talk caused disappointment to Turkey. The Cyprus issue remains a major stumbling block on Turkey's path to EU membership, as Turkey refuses to open ports and airports to the traffic of the Cypriot Republic, which is an EU member.
