Early this month - more than 200 children in Huaining County, Anqing City, were found to have high levels of lead in their blood. 23 of them even had to be hospitalized. Later investigation showed lead emissions from the nearby Borui Battery Co factory was the cause of the poisoning - sparking a probe for those responsible. Now ten officials in Huaining County have been punished by administrative warnings or removal from office, according to Local authorities on Thursday. Three officials including Huaining Environmental Protection Bureau director Zhao Yiping have been sacked. Anqing's government also said the offending factory would be investigated by police and duly punished.
