With an election looming in early July, Thai soldiers have been paying goodwill visits to rural northeastern villages, espousing the virtues of the king. Here in the stronghold of the opposition "Red Shirt" movement -- the target of a deadly military crackdown last year -- many back former PM Thaksin Shinawatra, who was ousted in a 2006 coup. Thailand's powerful army has record of interfering in Thailand's politics, and some fear history is repeating itself. A natural sound version of an AFPTV report.
