Two decades ago, the German parliament, the Bundestag, voted to make Berlin the German capital, putting the final touches to German reunification. The former West German capital, Bonn, became a Federal City“, and Berlin became the new capital and seat of government. Since then, Germany has mainly been led from Berlin. But some ministries are still based in Bonn, employing thousands of staff who are frequently required to make costly trips to Berlin.
